Marking its 9th year, Battle of the School bands is a competition held in Northern Territory schools, which sees the winners play alongside the biggest names in Australian music at the People’s Choice BASSINTHEGRASS Music Festival.

The Battle of the School Bands competition is open to middle and senior years (7-12) students enrolled in a government or non-government school.

In 2017 Fat Pigeon took out band category of Battle of the School Bands, whilst Stevie Jean capped of a banger of a 2-o-17 taking out not only the soloist category of Battle of the School Bands, but also going on to be the NT Finalist for triple j's Unearthed High National competition.

Heats

School bands will need to perform two original songs at their allocated school heat, for the opportunity to earn a place in the final.

  • Alice Springs - 15 March 2018
  • Nhulunbuy - 20 March 2018
  • Roseberry Middle School - 22 March 2018
  • Katherine High School - 26 March 2018
  • Darwin High School - 13 April 2018

Final

The final will be held on Friday, 27 April 2018. Finalists will need to perform two original songs and will be assessed by official judges, prior to the announcement of the winners who will play on the People’s Choice BASSINTHEGRASS stage.
